Abu Dhabi, March 14th-17th 2019: Every human being is unique and special in every sense. However, over the centuries, our society has transformed from valuing relationships to worshipping materialistic successes and possessions. However, there are some exceptions to this observation and in some pockets of society we often find people and organizations caring for the under privileged, differently abled or intellectually challenged. One such event held in Abu Dhabi in the recent past, championed people with intellectual disabilities: the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games.
In the inclusive world of the Special Olympics, athletes, supporters and officials from 200 nations converged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to take part in the largest sporting event of 2019. Singapore has always encouraged and supported athletes with special needs and this time around too, we witnessed a contingent of 30 Singaporean athletes participating in the Special Olympics. Adding another feather to its hat, Special Olympics Singapore has just completed 50 Years of its formation and marks its tenth occasion participating in the Games. Team Singapore participated in a myriad of events and claimed one gold, two silvers and three bronze medals on day three of competition. Team Singapore won a gold medal in athletics, along with medals in bocce, bowling, and swimming. They definitely made Singapore and their families proud on the world sports stage and we salute their sporting achievements.
Mr. Radhakrishna Bijjala, Founder & CEO of Total eBiz Solutions (TeBS) Pte Ltd Singapore, was invited to be part of the 2019 Special Olympics Summer Games and present awards to the winners. It was quite an honour to support the prestigious “Special Olympics Singapore” and accompany the sports team and the athletes in a foreign land where Singapore’s flag and pride flew high.
