Company Overview

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is a statutory board under the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, dedicated to overseeing food safety and security within Singapore. Established on 1 April 2019 by Minister Masagos Zulkifli, SFA aims to boost the nation’s self-sustenance in food production from 10% in 2019 to 30% by 2030, as part of its strategic national goals.

The Challenges Faced

SFA encountered several operational hurdles that hindered their capacity to efficiently manage food safety processes:

  • Manual Processes: Prior to digital transformation, SFA was bogged down by manual and disjointed processes in the registration and tracking of food handlers, leading to delays and potential inaccuracies in maintaining essential data integrity.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring compliance with stringent food safety regulations required an advanced level of traceability and data security that manual systems could hardly sustain.
  • Integration Needs: The necessity to integrate with both internal and external systems posed a significant challenge, especially in maintaining data flow without compromising security and operational continuity.

Solution Proposed

In partnership with TeBS, SFA initiated the development and implementation of FHD2Hub, a comprehensive digital platform. TeBs proposed to create a solution hub which could integrate with their internal system.

  • System Integration and Development: The FHD2Hub was designed to integrate seamlessly with SFA’s internal systems like the Enterprise Data Lake and iFast, as well as necessary external systems, ensuring robust data interchange and regulatory compliance.
  • Secure Hosting on Microsoft Azure GCC Cloud: The platform is securely hosted on Microsoft Azure’s Government Cloud (GCC), providing high levels of security and compliance necessary for sensitive governmental data operations.
  • Maintenance and Support: Ongoing application and cloud resources maintenance support services ensure the system remains reliable and up-to-date against evolving technological and security challenges.

Benefit

The implementation of FHD2Hub brought transformative benefits to SFA:

  • Operational Efficiency: Automation and digitization of the food handler registration process significantly reduced manual efforts, streamlined operations, and minimized human error.
  • Enhanced Compliance and Security: The secure integration and robust data handling capabilities improved SFA’s adherence to national and international food safety standards.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: With integrated systems and enhanced data collection capabilities, SFA can make more informed decisions to further its mission of increasing local food production and ensuring food security.
  • Scalable and Sustainable Solutions: The FHD2Hub platform is designed to be scalable to accommodate future needs and innovations in food safety and security management.

This strategic initiative not only enhanced operational capacities at SFA but also equipped it to better manage and secure Singapore’s food safety and security in alignment with national sustainability goals.
